Push Button Air Switch: Sink Disposal

By on March 19, 2015

Air SwitchThis is a popular trend now. The push button air activated switch is used more often around the kitchen sink to activate your garbage disposal. The button switch can be located near your kitchen sink faucet on your countertop or on the front side of your sink cabinet.

Why would you want this? My disposal switch is located inside the lower cabinet of my sink, so I have to open the lower cabinet door and reach in and feel for the typical wall switch to activate it. Then I have to reach down afterwards to close the cabinet door. What a pain!

My solution is to drill a hole into the wood cabinet’s front top facia and install one of these convenient push button switches. I chose to locate the switch on the front of the cabinet instead of the top of the counter, near the faucet for a couple of reasons.

  1. It’s easier to drill through wood than granite.
  2. I like my granite countertop to be easier to wipe clean, with no buttons to collect dirt and grime.

Lowes: InSinkErator SwitchFor my install I chose the Lowes: InSinkErator switch. These switches can be found in most home stores such as Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware. The steps to install are fairly simple and makes for a very convenient way to active your garbage disposal.

You won’t know how you ever did without one!
